The Diver

Description:
For my illustration class, we each picked an animal to study and sketch several pages of, and then we developed a restaurant for that animal to be the face of. For my animal, I chose a penguin, which led me to develop the beach-front casual seafood joint, The Diver.

Process:
When I originally decided to do a penguin for my animal, I stuck with the gentoo penguin. But as I got further into developing The Diver, I couldn’t connect the logo of the penguin to the type, so I had to let go of the gentoo penguin in order to better match the logo to the type. To incorporate the type into the logo, I used the ‘D’ from The Diver as the beak of the penguin, which also allowed me to design a secondary logo with just the beak and eye.

Outcome:
I think I would go back and refine the mockups I created for this project, but I’m very happy with my final logo, color palette, and branding. This project taught me the importance of thinking in depth around designing a cohesive brand, including style and presenting the same company in multiple ways.
