ACT Film Festival
Description:
My typography class partnered with the curator of the ACT Human Rights Film Festival to create the 2026 festival poster and marketing materials. Our objective was to design something that spoke to the themes of human rights as well as to film in general. Whichever poster was chosen would be the face of the film festival for 2026. For my class, specifically, we were instructed to make these posters into a series of three.
Process:
The biggest challenge I had in this project was deciding what kind of imagery I wanted to use that would convey ‘human rights.’ It’s a very broad subject, and I wanted to make sure I used imagery that had versatility for many types of people. My decision in the end was to illustrate a figure coming out of an environment into the light (or spotlight). The main idea I wanted to discuss with my work was how all of the unknown stories of people could finally become known and shone upon, like how people can normally only see the tip of the iceberg (when so much more lies underneath the surface).
Outcome:
Although I did not get chosen to represent the face of ACT for 2026, I really enjoyed developing my posters for the concept of human rights. Making these a series of three was challenging at first, but it was a good opportunity to further develop individual ideas around human rights within each different poster.
